Arts Summer 2022
O.J.A.I. Ojai Jail Arts Initiative
OJAI JAIL | GROUP SHOW
Libbey Park | October 8 - 16 | 10am - 6pm Daily
The Ojai Jail Arts Initiative is a site-specific, multi-disciplinary group exhibition taking place from October 8th to 16th in and around the historic, decommissioned Ojai City Jail in downtown Ojai. Curated by Matt Henriksen, Elizabeth Herring, and Teddy Nava, the week-long exhibition will include new commissions by Brett William Childs, Annette Heully, Vanessa Wallace Gonzales, Hailey Loman, Sarah Mirk, and James Whipple. Connected through their ties to Ojai and Ventura county, the artists have been asked to respond to the jail as a site for investigating hyper-local geography and social historical space, repositioning it as a generative, community space for arts and culture in the Ojai Valley.

Perception & Persistence
OJAI VALLEY MUSEUM | OJAI STUDIO ARTISTS GROUP SHOW
130 W. Ojai Avenue | July 29 - October 10 | Reception: July 29, 5-7 PM
Perception - Ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through
senses. Knowledgeable seeing.
Persistence - Firm or obstinate continuance of course of action in spite of
difficulty or opposition. Like one’s studio practice. Whether you proceed
gleefully or advance in a terrified state. It’s this push/pull of thinking
and making I would appreciate you taking into consideration.

Matters of Gravity
MALOOF DISCOVERY GARDEN | TANYA KOVALESKI & MARTHA MORAN
5131 Carnelian Street, Rancho Cucamonga | June 5, 2021 – May 31, 2022
From Maloof Foundation:
Matters of Gravity presents the work of two Ojai sculptors grappling with gravity in very distinct ways.
Tanya Kovaleski’s dynamically engineered wooden structures arch skyward in gravity-defying angles and curves, all painted in bold colors.
Martha Moran’s rock stacks deal with mass and balance, rooted to the earth. Her Buddha Beach Maloof installation is an array of small rock stacks, inspired by Buddha Beach in Sedona, Arizona, a vortex spot filled with thousands of stacks.
