If you’ve been to Shop Summer Camp, you know the owners have a knack for plant care. Their little home goods and frame shop just on the way into (or out of) Ojai is chock-full of towering fiddle leaf figs, delicious monstera, and rare succulents.

Located in the center of Ojai, Mike and Rachel Graves’ second retail offering focuses on that passion. It features a cozy fireplace and courtyard perfect for showcasing sun-loving succulents.

Plant Based has it all: plants of all sizes, potting soil, and fertilizer as well as home accessories like prints by Real Fun Wow! and pots from local ceramicists like Duo Luto.

Shop Plant Based has a different feel from its campy (in the best way) sister store but found inside are the same sort of charming details — such as the vintage book above — as well as familiar items like locally-made candles, a collaboration with local Good Vibes Candle Co. The “Ojai Vibes” candle is a must for visitors looking to bring scents of palo santo, firewood, and sage back to their homes.

If — like me — you find plant care intimidating, Mike and Rachel are the perfect antidote to your botanophobia. They have a sort of casual expertise.

And if — like me — you kill your plant, you know where to get another. No shame.
