Out There

I’m about as much of a linguist as I am a botanist, so any writer or grammarian piqued by any of this: please send your resumes ASAP.

Anyhoo, it’s hot and so summer will be loose. Bear with us for a moment.

OUT THERE:

(collinsdictionary.com)

ADJECTIVE | in or at a place or places regarded as being distant or remote, outside, etc.

“Ojai? That’s way out there.”

NOMINALIZATION | unconventional or eccentric

“They have a mix — from useful household items to some real out-there stuff.”

“OUT THERE” According to Pinterest

(ubandictionary.com)

ADJECTIVE | crazy; mentally deranged; scatter-brained, loony | so extremely individualistic so as to appear mentally unstable | not conforming to mores, accepted norms, or standards

“Her? She’s a little out there.”

ADJECTIVE | when one has had too much to drink or has done too many drugs either that day or collectively over time

“Him? He’s a little out there.”

PHRASES:

“I see you out there”

Like, really good advice | when your G is about to partake in “mackin’”... the phrase: "I see you out there" is used to invigorate the "macker" to get ready to blow the "mackee's” mind

This one’s kind | can also be used to pump up the person to whom you are saying it, similar to the phrase "I see you"

“Just placing it out there”

Similar to the phrase "just putting that out there," but said more as a suggestion, particularly when the person saying it lacks confidence.

Just placing it out there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

…Not to be confused with ...

Out here”

The term to explain your location, and to refer to the term as such of being "boss-like"

Human 1: what's up man, where you at??

Human 2: bitch I'm fucking out here!!!

But I can think of more. Laying it all out there (vulnerability). Get out there again (optimism). Get out there (business-y). Go out there and (sporty). Go out there every single (burdened). Out there ::gestures broadly:: (exasperation).

The third issue of VORTEX will be all of these things.

First up, we head to the new Ojai Community Farmers' Market in search of very busy board member Grace Bueti Malloy. Find out how OCFM is seeking to build a sustainable local food economy in cooperation with local schools and farmers down in the Chaparral School courtyard. Go for the chance encounters, live music, and Sander's and Sons Gelato; stay for the big, bold vision.

Next, we head way out across twenty miles of sharky waters, to 'California's Galapagos,' land of tiny foxes, the island of the blue dolphins (well, not quite)... the Channel Islands! We took a ride out with Duo Luto's Nico Ali and Fanny Penny, their kids, brother/uncle Felix, filmmaker Nicholas Weissman, and friendo-extraordinaire Clare Andre to Santa Cruz Island for a little getaway.

See photos from The Nicks, and an overview of a surprisingly leisurely trip. Did we get a decent photo of an Island Fox? No. Did we find a free stock photo of an Island Fox? Absolutely.

At an average of 15 degrees cooler than Ojai this time of year, I tell ya, it cannot be beat.
